Top 30 Shows of 2018

Anyone who cares about TV knows that the amount of scripted programming that exists now is really unfathomable. For someone like me who kind of likes to watch everything, it can be a bit maddening. But I’m still making the effort to watch as much as I can and I think the best thing that’s come out of this absolute explosion of content is that we’re getting more stories that are diverse and specific and different than anything we’ve seen before. There’s some debate as to whether or not we’re still in the midst of “Peak TV” in terms of quality or if it’s just referring to massive number of shows airing at this point, but I’d argue that the quality is still pretty high. More shows than ever to skip to get to the great stuff but there’s plenty of it out there, in all shapes and varieties.

I write this really self-indulgent list every year and it is time consuming but I find myself really enjoying it every time. It’s easier to appreciate all of the great art that’s I’ve had the chance to witness in a single year when I actually set aside time to reflect on it all and it’s really quite something. If you enjoy reading these lists, let me know with a comment or just by liking the post on whatever social media site you saw it shared on. I’d be happy to hear your thoughts as well, even if you just wanna call me crazy or stupid for overlooking your show.

Which, to be fair, I’ve had to overlook some. No single person can watch everything that’s being released these days, even if it’s their job and this is not my job. Some shows that I feel like I’d probably like a good bit but never got a chance to watch include Bodyguard, ELITE, Sorry For Your Loss, The Terror and whatever your favorite show is that I haven’t included. But I got to as many as I could and here are my 30 favorite shows from this past year. Enjoy and thanks for reading!
